To get the most from a blow wave appointment, book ahead, arrive with clean, product-free hair, tell your stylist about any hair concerns, ask about add-ons, and use the right take-home products afterwards. Arriving 5 minutes early and knowing the cancellation policy keeps the visit relaxed. Here is what each step involves.

How far ahead should I book a blow wave?

Blow waves and specialist treatments tend to fill up, especially before weekends or events. The Blow Wave Bar is open Tuesday to Friday from 07h30 to 17h30 and Saturday from 07h00 to 13h00 (closed on Mondays, Sundays and public holidays). If a wedding, matric dance or year-end function is in your diary, book as soon as you have the date. Call or WhatsApp 083 573 0982, or email info@somalaser.co.za.

How should I prepare my hair before a blow wave?

If possible, arrive with clean, product-free hair. It helps the stylist deliver the best finish. Oils, leave-in serums, heavy conditioners and dry shampoo build-up can weigh hair down, flatten the roots sooner and make a smooth finish harder to achieve. If you wash the night before, skip the styling products afterwards. It also helps to bring:

  • A photo or two of the finish you like, which is often clearer than describing it.
  • Notes on any colour, lightening or treatment you have had recently.
  • An idea of your plans: an outdoor event, a long day or a night out can change what the style needs to stand up to.
  • A top with a wide or open neckline, which is easier to work around than a high collar.

What should I tell my stylist?

Mention any hair concerns, such as damage, frizz or texture, at the consultation so your stylist can recommend the right treatment or product. Tell them about recent chemical services, how your hair usually behaves in humidity, and how long you need the style to hold. The more they know, the easier it is to match the finish to your day.

Which add-ons are worth asking about?

If you want a braid or extra head-massage time, these can often be added. Here is what the menu lists:

Add-onPriceWhy people add it
BraidR40A different look, or a neat way to wear the blow wave on day two or three
10 min Head MassageR60A short pause in a busy day
20 min Head MassageR100More time to switch off
30 min Head MassageR140The longest option on the menu
Daymoist (Inoar basin treatment)R170Listed for intense moisture and instant shine
Mini Japanese Silk (Inoar basin treatment)R220Listed for soft, shiny hair, added protein and less frizz

Does the take-home product really matter?

A good blow wave appointment is best supported by a good home routine, so ask which product your stylist recommends for your hair. The Blow Wave Bar is a proud stockist of Inoar products. In general, a heat protectant before any restyling, a wide-tooth comb for tangles and a gentle shampoo when you do wash can help a finish look fresh for longer.

How do I make a blow wave last longer?

  • Sleep with your hair in a loose, high bun, or on a silk or satin pillowcase, to cut down on flattening and frizz.
  • Wear a shower cap and keep out of steamy rooms, because water is what usually undoes a blow-dried shape.
  • Use dry shampoo at the roots on day two instead of washing.
  • Carry an umbrella in summer, when Pretoria afternoons can bring sudden storms.
  • Keep your hands out of it, as touching spreads oil and loosens the style.

Is there a way to save if I book often?

The Blow Wave Club is aimed at regular clients: Pay for 4 blow waves and receive 10% off as well as 1 x basin treatment (must be used within 6 weeks).

What is the booking policy?

Please read the policy before you book. Arriving 5 minutes early means you start on time and are settled before your stylist begins.

Frequently asked questions

Should I wash my hair the morning of my blow wave?

Washing the night before or the morning of is fine, as long as you skip heavy products afterwards. The aim is clean, product-free hair, which helps the stylist deliver the best finish. If your hair gets oily quickly, a morning wash may suit you better. If you have not managed to wash it, mention that when you arrive.

Can I wear my hair up after a blow wave?

Yes, but be gentle. Tight elastics can leave a kink, so a soft scrunchie or a loose clip is kinder to the finish. Many people wear the blow wave down on day one, then switch to a loose braid or low bun on day two or three. If you already know you want it up, ask about the braid add-on, listed at R40.

What happens if I am running late?

Let the salon know as soon as you can on 083 573 0982. Under the booking policy, late arrivals are charged full price and the appointment time is adjusted accordingly, which can leave less time for your style. Aim to arrive 5 minutes before your appointment starts so you are settled and ready when your stylist is.

Is a weekly blow wave bad for my hair?

Regular heat styling can contribute to dryness and breakage over time, particularly on hair that is lightened or already damaged. Many people balance weekly blow waves with conditioning treatments and gentle home care. If your hair feels dry or brittle, mention it at your consultation. Inoar basin treatments, such as Daymoist at R170, are on the menu if your stylist feels your hair needs moisture.
