The Inoar Japanese Super Silk Treatment, explained

The Inoar Japanese Super Silk Treatment is an in-salon conditioning treatment for dry, dull or damaged hair, priced R590 - R1 020 at the Soma Blow Wave Bar in Pretoria. Inoar says its superfood formula gives immediate results in moisture, gloss and lubrication. Unlike the Brazilian Blow Wave, its focus is condition rather than smoothing.
What is the Inoar Japanese Silk treatment?
Inoar calls its salon treatment Japanese Silk Superfood. On our menu it is the Inoar Japanese Super Silk Treatment, and it is designed to repair and rejuvenate hair using silk proteins, camellia oil, rice extract and other nourishing ingredients. In Inoar's own words:
Inoar's Famous Japanese Silk Superfood in-salon treatment has been developed with nano encapsulation technology that allows for enhanced penetration of the formulas superfood ingredients into the scalp, follicles and hair shaft, with immediate results in improved hair moisture, gloss & lubrication which are critical for optimal growth, shine, texture and health of the hair.
Inoar South Africa describes Japanese Silk as a treatment "developed with Superfoods, Nano- & Encapsulation Technology, that allows enhanced penetration", and lists results including "Soft, smooth & shiny, manageable hair" and reduced frizz "without removing curls".

What do silk proteins, camellia oil and rice extract do for hair?
Hair is made mostly of a protein called keratin. Chemical services, heat and everyday wear can erode it, leaving the strand weaker and rougher. Conditioning proteins such as silk proteins are common in hair care because they can coat and smooth the surface of the strand, which helps hair feel softer and look shinier.
Camellia oil is a light plant oil traditionally associated with Japanese hair care. Oils like it can help seal in moisture and reduce friction between strands, which often shows up as better shine and easier combing. Rice extract is another ingredient with a long history in Japanese hair care and is often found in conditioning formulas.
What does nano encapsulation mean?
Encapsulation is a formulation approach where active ingredients are held inside tiny carriers. Inoar says this technology allows enhanced penetration of the formula's superfood ingredients into the scalp, follicles and hair shaft. That is Inoar's description of its product, which we pass on as theirs.
Moisture or protein: what does damaged hair need?
Healthy hair needs a balance of protein and moisture. Protein gives the strand structure and strength, while moisture keeps it flexible and soft. When the balance tips, hair often tells you:
- Too little moisture: hair feels dry, rough and straw-like, tangles easily and looks dull.
- Too little protein: hair feels limp, mushy when wet or overly stretchy, and may snap when stretched.
- Too much protein: hair can feel stiff, brittle or crunchy.
Coloured, lightened and heat-styled hair often needs both. Inoar positions the Super Silk around moisture, gloss and lubrication, with silk proteins in the formula, which is why it is worth asking about when hair feels tired all over. Your stylist can look at your hair and advise.
Who is the Japanese Silk treatment for?
With premium treatments available, the Blow Wave Bar is also suited for those whose hair needs a bit of extra care (damage repair, hydration, frizz-control). The Super Silk is worth asking about if:
- your hair has been coloured, lightened or chemically treated
- you heat style most days and your ends feel rough
- your hair looks dull even straight after a blow wave
- you want softer, more manageable hair without smoothing out your natural curl
- you have an event coming up and want your hair in good condition for styling
Japanese Silk treatment vs Brazilian Blow Wave
These two Inoar treatments are often confused, but they do different jobs.
| Japanese Super Silk Treatment | Brazilian Blow Wave | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | R590 - R1 020 | R800 - R2 800, length dependent |
| Main focus | Moisture, gloss and lubrication (Inoar) | Frizz and volume reduction (Inoar) |
| Effect on curl | Reduces frizz without removing curls (Inoar) | Reduces volume/curl up to 90% (Inoar) |
| Stated longevity | Immediate results (Inoar) | Lasts 3 months (if maintained with correct homecare) (Inoar) |
If frizz and long blow drying times are your main problem, the Brazilian Blow Wave is the treatment built for that. If your hair is dry, dull or damaged, the Super Silk is the one to ask about.

Is there a smaller Japanese Silk option?
Our menu also lists a Mini Japanese Silk basin treatment at R220, with soft and shiny hair, added protein and reduced frizz listed as its benefits. It is a separate menu item from the full Super Silk Treatment. Our basin treatment guide explains how it compares with Daymoist.
How to keep the results at home
In-salon treatments work best with a sensible routine between visits:
- Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo, which can be kinder to dry and coloured hair.
- Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends every time you wash.
- Use heat protection before every blow dry or straighten, and keep tools at a moderate temperature.
- Sleep on a smooth pillowcase, or tie long hair loosely, to reduce friction.
- Book regular trims, because split ends can travel further up the strand.
Inoar's South African site lists a Japanese Silk home care mask in its range. The Blow Wave Bar is a proud stockist of Inoar products, so ask your stylist which Inoar products suit your hair and what is currently in stock.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Inoar Japanese Silk treatment cost?
At the Soma Blow Wave Bar the Inoar Japanese Super Silk Treatment is R590 - R1 020. Mention your hair length and condition when you book, and your stylist will confirm your price at the consultation. If you would like a smaller treatment, the Mini Japanese Silk basin treatment is R220, with soft, shiny hair, added protein and less frizz listed as its benefits.
Does the Japanese Silk treatment straighten hair?
It is not designed as a straightening treatment. Inoar describes Japanese Silk as reducing frizz without removing curls, and focuses on moisture, gloss and lubrication. If you want less volume and a smoother result that lasts between appointments, the Inoar Brazilian Blow Wave is the treatment built for that, and your stylist can explain the difference at the consultation.
What should I tell my stylist before a Super Silk treatment?
Mention any colour, lightening or chemical services you have had, how often you use heat tools, and anything about your hair that bothers you, such as dryness, breakage or frizz. That helps your stylist decide whether the Super Silk, a basin treatment or another Inoar option is the right fit for your hair at the moment.
How often should I have a Japanese Silk treatment?
There is no single right answer, because timing depends on your hair. Hair that is heavily lightened or heat styled every day may benefit from more regular care, while healthier hair may only need an occasional boost. Ask your stylist after your first treatment, and keep the result going at home with gentle washing, regular conditioning and heat protection.
Is the Japanese Silk treatment good for frizzy hair?
It can help. Inoar lists reduced frizz among Japanese Silk's results and says it does this without removing curls, so it suits people who want calmer, softer hair but still want their texture. If frizz is your main concern and you would like hair that is noticeably smoother and quicker to blow dry, ask about the Brazilian Blow Wave instead.
